A discontinued bracket needs an approved alternative

An equipment distributor needs to review alternatives when a supplier stops listing a particular mounting bracket. The proposed comparison keeps mounting dimensions, material, packaging and sample requirements visible before any substitution is approved for a future order.

These scenarios are plans for discussing a future purchase. They do not report completed customer orders.

Alternatives for a key SKU

The buying situation

In this scenario, a repeat-order bracket is no longer offered in the original specification, while the distributor still has customers using that version. Similar photographs are insufficient for a buying decision because mounting points, dimensions and acceptable changes must be compared with the approved reference.

Proposed approach

  1. Establish the original SKU, drawing, material and mounting dimensions, and ask the buyer to identify which features must stay unchanged and which differences may be considered.
  2. Place candidate offers beside the original specification, recording dimensions, stated materials, minimum order quantities, packaging and questions that the listing cannot resolve for the buyer.
  3. Agree which candidates warrant supplier clarification and samples, then retain the technical review and buyer approval as separate steps before a replacement purchase instruction.

Decision pack for approval

A proposed original-to-alternative comparison and sample enquiry list. The buyer would approve any permitted differences; a listing comparison would not establish interchangeability or authorise substitution.

Still to confirm

Current supply terms, mounting and material details, sample results and the buyer’s technical acceptance of any substitute.
